Is Gansu worth visiting?

After watching this video, my answer is yes.

Gansu is one of the most underrated travel destinations in China. It is not only about deserts, camels, and the Silk Road. This province has so many different landscapes that it almost feels like several worlds in one journey.

The video begins with peaceful villages, ancient towers, and quiet mountain roads. Then the scenery slowly opens into green valleys, forests, waterfalls, and misty mountains. This is the softer side of Gansu — fresh, calm, and full of natural beauty.

In southern Gansu and Gannan, the views become even more dramatic. Tibetan-style villages, monasteries, grasslands, and huge mountain cliffs create a feeling of peace and mystery. Places like Zhagana look like hidden villages from another world, surrounded by mountains and clouds.

Then Gansu shows its deep history. Maijishan Grottoes in Tianshui stands on the cliff like a giant piece of ancient art. Every cave and statue carries the memory of Chinese Buddhist culture and thousands of years of history.

The journey continues to Lanzhou, where the Yellow River runs through the city. The river gives the city its soul. From day to night, the view of Lanzhou feels both modern and ancient.

Further west, the landscape becomes wider and more powerful. Snow mountains, wind farms, the Great Wall, Jiayuguan Pass, and desert roads all remind us that this was once the heart of the ancient Silk Road.

And of course, Dunhuang is one of the most unforgettable parts. The desert, camel caravans, Mingsha Mountain, and Crescent Lake create the classic image of northwest China — romantic, lonely, and magnificent.

This is the beauty of Gansu. In one province, you can see green mountains, ancient grottoes, the Yellow River, snow peaks, desert, frontier passes, and Silk Road history.

Gansu is not a place you simply pass through.
